DCI’s Next Steps with NIST

February 2011

DCI agreed to a proposed solution by the SMPTE Study Group on NIST Revisions and DCI for solving the dual certificate issue.  The method shown last month was under consideration, but the proposal that’s moving forward is simpler with less impact.   Rather than impose a change in the way KDMs are made, the accepted method [...]

SMPTE Update

February 2011

SMPTE’s 21DC ad hoc groups and working groups met this month.  For the working groups, it was their last meeting.  21DC10 Mastering, chaired by Al Barton (now with Fox), and 21DC30, chaired by your author, will be retired in the formal Technology Committee meeting to be held in March.  The change has been a long [...]

ISDCF Undertakes Virtual Plugfest and Interop Audio

November 2010

ISDCF held its virtual “plugfest” this month.  In test were nine different compositions packaged in SMPTE DCP format by eight different mastering houses.  In turn, the DCPs were tested on five different systems, from Doremi, GDC, Dolby, Sony, and XDC.  It is worth noting the complexity of these tests.  There is no such thing as [...]

Other News

October 2010

ISDCF canceled its November 18 Plugfest and will instead hold a “virtual” plugfest.  Date conflicts and difficulty in booking a screening room have caused this change.  The virtual plugfest is taking place on the iPath reflector, limited to bona fide techies across the industry.
John Woodward left his position as CEO of UK [...]
