  • DCinema Alliance of the Philippines announced the signing of digital cinema deployment agreements with Disney, Fox, Paramount, and Warner.   Filipino cinemas are a consumer of English language film prints, which are rapidly diminishing.  The deal was negotiated by MKPE Consulting.
  • Barco announced the installation of its Auro-3D sound system in AMC, Cinemark, and Regal cinemas.  It is no doubt an impressive sounding system, however, Barco’s business model remains to be seen.  Notably, the press release only names one cinema in which an installation took place, which happens to be the Regal cinema closest to your author’s home, and not one of Regal’s more upscale properties.  We’ll be listening.
  • Christie Digital obtained DCI approval for projector software upgrades that allow high frame rate capability.  It is important to note that this renewed compliance with DCI only says that the high frame rate software upgrade did not break the projector’s prior compliance with DCI.  DCI does not test for high frame rate functionality.
