  • Texas Instruments meets NATO. TI execs met with AMC, Cinemark, Marcus, and Regal. TI retracted plans to license 3-D license for Series 2 projectors, and reached out for help on Cinelink 2 and the Gore board.
  • Real D and glasses. Fox announces its intent to not pay for Real D 3-D glasses, with major backlash from exhibitors. This may not be the only assault on Real D, however.

  • CBG focuses on weekly VPFs and alternative funding.
  • Closed Captions on display. USL showed a prototype electronic cup-holder display, as well as a proof-of-concept pair of closed caption glasses. Georgia Tech reappeared after a 1 ½ year legal battle with SightLine, this time demonstrating an iPhone w/glasses application. PCS was nowhere to be seen.
  • SMPTE completes the suite of packaging standards.
  • ISDCF conducts the industry’s first open 3-D luminance test, with interesting, positive, results.
  • Fortis comes through for XDC. Fortis Bank opened a credit facility to fund digital cinema.
  • Philips shuts down 3D Solutions. Although arguably the most successful autostereoscopic display provider, the economy caught up with investors in autostereoscopic technology.
